Now that that the weather is finally nicer ( I think Spring is here to stay!), I have started busting out my skirts and cute clothes, that have been hiding in the back of my closet.
Mixing and matching pieces has also helped me keep some variety, as well as adding some cute and science-y jewelry 😉
I recently wore a dress to the lab, and was able to quickly and easily transition to going out by wearing leggings underneath – and taking them off when I left the lab!
One of the rules in the lab is having your legs fully covered and closed toed shoes – why? Because if you spill anything or break something – your legs will have a layer of protection, the clothes. While I have been tempted to break the rules every now and then, I am too paranoid about spilling something on myself, and I have done so many a time – so I’d rather play it safe, and you can still look fashionable!
On the weekends, on the other hand, is a different ball field. When I’m not going to the lab, I like wearing cute skirts and dresses out. A simple black skirt, shown here from the VBxTarget Collaboration paired with a simple maroon/red blouse from Express, is a quick and easy outfit for exploring the city, brunch, anything really. What’s great about a neutral piece like a black skirt is you can create multiple outfits by switching out the top and adding different jewelry pieces! I really like the big pocket in this skirt – it’s not just for decoration, but I wouldn’t put anything too bulky or valuable into it!
What’s even better, is you can switch out the skirt for some dress pants or some dark jeans for a completely different outfit, while still keeping the same shoes. There is a lot of wiggle room here, and you can bring just a few pieces with you if you are traveling, and mix and match to get multiple outfits! Space saving – score!
Now lets talk shoes and accessories. I fell in love with these ankle heeled booties from Forever 21 – and they were on sale! They were also surprisingly really comfortable, and I love the pointy toe! They are suede though, so I would be careful wearing them in the rain!
My Jewelry are some science pieces from SciChic – and I LOVED THEM! They are 3D printed by my friend Erin, who is the CEO, and so so cool! I am wearing on of the shark necklaces and the PPE Safety Glasses Ring! How cool is that ring!
What is your go to to wear in the summer? Do you like mixing and matching outfits with simple neutral pieces like a black skirt or pants?
Fun Fact – Pictures were taken by Erin at Scichic.com in the heart of Kendall Square, which is the BioTech Hub in Boston (Cambridge), MA!
