Summer of the Dress: The Blue Dress

Hello loves!
I am calling this summer the "Summer of the Dress," as you have noticed my last couple of posts have all been dresses (and they will keep coming!).
I fell completely IN LOVE with this Blue Dress I got from eShakti! I ordered it at the same time I ordered the Chambray dress from last week, and it is one of my favorite dresses! It looked rather cute on the website, and I didn't expect it to be this flattering! It is the perfect "poofiness," that makes my waist look small and my legs look long!
Again, I am reusing pieces I packed with me, in my attempts to "pack light," so I am wearing the same Nine West heels I wore to the conference, and the same gold statement necklace and bangles!  This time I am using my Aldo Purse that I bought a few years ago. I was in love with how the whole outfit came together, perfect for lunch or dinner or even going out for some drinks! It is the perfect summery dress!

Dress: eShakti | Heels: Nine West | Necklace: Charlotte Russe | Purse: Aldo | Sunglasses: Gift Shop | Bangles: Gift

A lot of the accessories I have been rewearing, and they are super easy to match with various outfits! Less things to pack = great in my book! and super cute!

I loved that I could customize this dress to my height and size on eShakti. It hits right above the knee after I indicated my height ( I am only 5'2"!), and this dress also has hidden pockets! It also came in black with the same white detail, but I just really love the vibrant blue color of this dress! It can easily be worn to a wedding or other special occasion too!

What do you think about this outfit?

Conference Fashion Transition to going out - Chambray dress and accessories part 2

Hello loves!
This is part 2 of the conference fashion post from Tuesday - but now I bring you an easy way to transition this same outfit into an easy going out/drinks/dinner/nightlife post by just changing some accessories!
Trying to pack light, I packed a lot of different accessories, and planned some outfits that I could transition easily by switching accessories, so I could get the most out of my expeditions out into the city without having to go back to the hotel to change! The statement necklace easily fits in my purse and I can carry my blazer! This is my look for the conference happy hour before heading out for dinner and drinks!
By just a simple removal of the blazer and switching the statement necklace, I feel like it looks like a different outfit! The same chambray dress from eShakti and heels from Nine West, and the same fringe purse! I am thinking of wearing my hair up though, since I wear my hair down a lot, and it is hot!

Barcelona Conference Fashion - Chambray dress, fringe and a Blazer

Hello from Barcelona loves!
Today I bring you an outfit I am wearing to the conference here in Barcelona! It's been a long day of traveling from LA, and after settling in the hotel room, I decided to check out the convention center, check in to the conference, and sit in for some talks before heading out and seeing some sights and getting dinner!
Since it will be 90 degrees F (~32 degrees C) all week here, I decided to mostly wear dresses to the conference! In order to make the dresses look more professional, I am pairing them with a blazer and some heels!
I have to present at the poster competition tomorrow, so I will be wearing something similar! I am excited to present my research internationally and get great ideas about my research and other research going on in the community!
I have been eyeing the chambray trend for a while now, and I finally bought a chambray dress from eShakti. I previously posted about new trends at eShakti and this is one of the dresses I fell in love with!  It is long enough to be sophisticated while providing a flattering look with a sweetheart neckline! I added the plain black blazer  (Steve Harvey Collection) on top to wear inside the convention center, since it is too hot outside to be wearing long sleeves, but sitting in talks all day inside will become a little chilly with the AC! I also wore this fringed black purse I got from Ross - Brand "Perfect Image" (store similar to TJ Maxx), I can't remember the brand, but it was $12 and I have been eyeing this kind of purse for months now (as if you couldn't tell from my posts!). I tried to pack lightly so I brought a few pieces I could match with different outfits, so you will be seeing similar pieces adapted to different things! I have a tendency to over pack, but I was determined to pack smart this time! (I had to pack for both a 4-day conference and vacation!)

Six Summer Beauty Travel Essentials

Happy middle of the week/almost the weekend!
As the weekend gets closer I'm getting more and more anxious about my trip! I finally settled into my new apartment, finally got rid of boxes and unpacked everything, and finally got into a routine for my commute to work, and now I'm getting ready to jet set off to Europe for the next three weeks! I have already talked about this but I am going to a conference in Barcelona, and I finished my poster for my presentation tonight, going to go print it tomorrow on fabric (yes they print on fabric so no more carrying huge poster tubes in the airport!), and just wrapping up experiments in lab. Time to start packing for the next few weeks of SUN and RELAXATION!! Something I have been lacking the last few weeks.

I have come to a realization - why stress? I try to put things in perspective by thinking, in a year from now, will it make a difference if you ran this certain experiment or stayed super late to finish this one thing? Or even, thinking about how everything that needs to get done will end up getting done, so it is not really worth stressing out about. I am always on top of my things and stay organized!

In preparation to start packing (note how I said START packing...I am a serial packing procrastinator!),  I have created a list for Six Summer Beauty Travel Essentials. I try not to pack too much makeup when I travel (I have a LOT of makeup!), so I try to fit everything on one or two little makeup bags (1), so I travel light on that aspect. I always end up packing too many clothes, so that will be my challenge. Since I need to pack professional clothes for a conference, I am trying to plan outfits with pieces that can do double the work - professional and change up accessories to wear out or for other occasions. Check it out and let me know if there is anything here that is an essential that you think is missing!

(1) Cute makeup bag to hold everything - In order to pack light, I am limiting myself to two small makeup bags. I have accumulated a lot of little makeup bags thru my Ipsy subscription, so I have a lot of different designs to choose from! Ipsy sends a lot of really cute and different bags each month. Or you can even use plastic baggies, but makeup bags always are a great way to go!

(2) Skin - Instead of packing a foundation, a primer, etc., I am going light and only bringing my Smashbox CC cream and my Smashbox Contour kit/palette. The CC cream blends really well with my skin and is light, and the contour kit can be used for a glam touch for going out or even for a polished conference look!

(3) Eye makeup - I talk about these products all the time on my blog, but I can't get enough of them! I have a small travel sized Primer potion by Urban Decay (fits nice and easy into your makeup bag!) and it lasts forever! I then am going to pack one or two palettes - The Vice3 palette I have done makeup series with is perfect for this because of the amounts of looks you can create, and also my Naked3 palette - to create some professional smokey eye looks!

(4) Mascara and liquid liner - Again - my favorite products that I use in all my tutorials - the Maybelline Line stiletto Liquid liner and my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara - that I had been saving for going out makeup looks, but why not use it while I'm on vacation!

(5) Lips - Lipstick/lip gloss/chapstick - Last but not least on the face - lips! I love the pigmentation of the Urban Decay lip products - I have 2 of the Revolution Lipstick and they are super rich - and I have been getting back into the lipglosses! These little chapstick pods are also all the rage lately - I have one in my purse and its just so easy to find in my bag and use! It is easily applied to your lips!

(6) Random important things - Some random things that are important to bring along - small nailpolish to touch up your nails (and since I will be busy running around I wont have time to paint my nails multiple colors. I LOVE this Essie nail polish in shade "watermelon," its the only thing I put on my toes because its easy. Makeup remover pads - this is great to have because you don't need to lug around a liquid makeup remover bottle and cotton pads. I just buy a little packet of these from target, using the target brand is really cheap, and usually you get about 25 in the pack, more than enough for 3 weeks, assuming you remove your makeup once a day. AND you dont have to worry about declaring liquids if you end up putting this in your carryon! Deodorant - a travel sized one is perfect for just throwing in your bag for on the go!

What do you think about this list? Is there anything I missed? Do let me know about your essentials in the comments below.

Also, be sure to check out my previous post on a complete Conference Packing List that I will be using for this trip to make sure I don't forget anything!

Red White and Blue - Vice3 Makeup Tutorial

Hello lovelies!
I am back with a *late* blog post, but I liked it so much I thought I would post it anyway. The craziness of life has started to slow down, so I have more time to post! I was working crazy long hours to try to finish experiments before I leave on my trip, and throw moving a whole one bedroom apartment over a weekend was a feat in itself - I didn't realize how much stuff I have accumulated since living by myself! My new apartment is almost completely set up, which feels good and I can finally relax! And then in a week I will be heading off to Europe - first to a conference in Spain - which I am ECSTATIC about! I have always wanted to go to Spain, and particularly Barcelona! and then off to Cyprus to lounge by the beach and hang out with family! SO. EXCITED.

Today I bring you a Fourth of July makeup tutorial from last week, using shades from my beloved UD Vice3 Palette! This palette is seriously so versatile, and can create so many different looks, as you have seen with my makeup tutorial series using this one palette! Even something like a Fourth of July look can be created! I took a break from packing last Saturday to go to a BBQ, and decided to try to be festive, so I pulled out my palette and created this look! I realized after its not completely original since a lot of other people have done this look but I didn't look at any other photos to come up with the idea! Lol. Take a look!

The Tutorial:
1. I always prime my lids using the Urban Decay Primer Potion, it really does help the makeup last throughout the day! You can use any primer on your lids, but this one works great!
2. I first swept Bobby Dazzle (2) in the middle of the lid, just to get the white priming the lid. This seems counter intuitive but it made it a lot easier to blend the shades later!
3. I then swept Sonic (1) in the inner lid/corner of the lid, and tried to blend it with the Bobby Dazzle but careful not to blend it too far.
4. I then added Freeze (3) to the outer corner, and tried to blend it out, and also added some of this to the bottom lash line
5. I then used my Maybelline Line Stiletto liquid liner to line the top lid, and also winged it out.
6. I also used my Urban Decay Perversion Mascara to finish off the look.

And a car selfie before the BBQ event

What do you think about this look?

Did you wear anything festive for the holiday (if you are from America)?

Do let me know in the comments below!

Living Room Inspiration - Blue like the Sea

Hello loves!
Happy first of July! I can't believe it is already July! Where is time going!? It feels like it was New Years Eve just yesterday!
I have had a rough couple of weeks with non stop work and stress, and getting really stressed out about my move this weekend to university apartments. I was really anxious to make everything official, but everything is working out and I have transferred all the utilities etc.! Now comes the hard part - packing up a whole apartment's worth of furniture!

I currently have a living room/dining room set up that I like, but with having a new place, I want to switch it up a bit, and what better way to switch it up than with changing in some cool accent pieces!

1. A neutral sofa - I currently have a dark gray microfiber/plush sofa, and it is perfect because it goes well with so many different color schemes! I originally wanted a red couch because I wanted a red/gray/white/black set, but I am glad I didn't go for the red couch because I would be stuck with it! Some set ups look great but I like to change things up and a neutral sofa/couch/love seat is perfect! I prefer gray or black!

2. Patterned/Colorful Throw pillows - I have a lot of colorful throw pillows on my couch and love seat, they are all red and white colored right now, but I want to switch it up with blue/turquoise and white! A nice way to add an accent color!

3. Unique Side Table - I currently have plain black Ikea side tables that I bought for $10 each, which is a great deal and goes well with anything, but I found these really cute side tables that are unique and add a pop of color! How cute are these! I love the patterns, particularly the twig one! So cute!

4. Coffee table - I currently have a coffee table from Ikea as well, it is plain black and I bought it for $40, which was a great deal! Here are some coffee table inspiration pieces similar to what I have right now, but I particularly like the thick accent table that completely sits on the ground! What a unique great touch!

5. Plants/Succulents/Accent pieces - Plain and simple accent pieces, like small vases, small pots with succulents, or simple flowers - all add the great amount of detail while still being subtle! Succulents are rather cheap to buy at the store/nursery, and the pots they come in are relatively cheap too. You can also buy fresh flowers and place them in a plain round vase for an elegant touch!

6. Unique Lighting - One thing I would spend money on is unique lighting pieces. I love hanging pieces/chandeliers, which I have one from Ikea that I got for $10 that I string to hang over my dining table! Adds a really cool touch. I have a unique floor octopus lamp that I found on amazon, which is a really cool addition to my living room. I also have a plain floor lamp for some extra light. I don't have side table lamps, but they would add more light to the room!

7. Art - I love colorful art in my apartment - I have found so many nice paintings and pieces to hang in my apartment, but being a poor grad student, I don't have the money for that! So, what I ended up doing, was buying a 5-pack of canvas on amazon and some acrylic paint, and painted some pieces to hang on my wall! It is rather cool because you can stick to a similar color scheme and you immediately have one of a kind art to hang in your apartment!

A lot of these things you can find similar pieces at Amazon, Ikea, or a thrift shop! Or even Craigslist or yard sales! I know I will be looking for some new pieces in the next few weeks as I settle down in my apartment, and hopefully I can post a photo soon :)

What do you think about this summer inspiration for your living room? What do you think about turquoise accents? What is your living room's color scheme? Do you like a neutral couch as a center piece or do you prefer a colorful couch? Let me know in the comments below!
