New Year's Eve Glam

What to wear this New Year's Eve??

Whether you are going to a chic bar or club or just keeping it low-key at a friend's party or even just at home,  it's always a nice excuse to dress up!

The Outfit
This year (like every year), I am loving sequins and sparkles! There are so many dresses out there that offer sequins (black or white, full or half of the dress) that can add glam to any occasion! Here are some that I found and fell in love with (granted, they might be really expensive but you can always find similar dresses at Forever 21, Charlotte Russe, etc. ! A dress is nice because it is versatile and you can wear tights or leggings underneath for an extra layer of warmth!
You also don't have to stick to dresses, there are so many outfits out there that you can match up that will still be fabulous with sequins! I have always wanted sequined shorts or leggings! Match these with a simple top and you are ready to go!

New Year's Eve Glam

The Shoes
I am in love with strappy heels, booties or pointy heels for this holiday season! You can wear knee high boots as well with these outfits, but how about showing some sexy leg with heels!
I have been looking for strappy black heels for a while now! I love the lace up boots as well, I found a similar pair from Zara I fell in love with but couldn't find a reason to wear them -- but now thinking about it I could totally wear on New Year's Eve!

The Bag
A matching (or accent) bag is a must have piece to complete your outfit! I fell in love with these bags when I was making this board, but being designer bags I really can't afford the steep price tag! But a girl can dream right?? I love this leopard print YSL bag, and those Michael Kors bags I've been wanting, so nice!

The Hair
I usually wear my hair curly for New Year's Eve, and this year won't be any different! I love romantic, loose curls, I would just use less hairspray this time to give myself looser curls! Using a 1 inch curling iron or a curling wand, you can achieve the same look!

The Makeup
I love creating Glam makeup looks using my Naked2 Palette! Shades of silver and black to make a really romantic glam smokey eye! Of course complemented with some black liquid liner and sultry lashes using a lot of mascara. For the lips - I want a deep red lipstick or gloss. If you think red is too much with the dramatic eyes, then you can always go for a nude shade to complete your look!

What are you wearing this New Year's Eve?? Let me know in the comments!

Holiday Makeup Essentials

What makeup to wear during the holiday season? Here are my latest picks for that glam holiday look, easily transitioned from day to night for those family holiday parties to night time excursions with friends! This is my makeup routine this holiday season! With a little saving and splurging, you can totally make this work on a graduate student stipend or low budget!

(1) Face : A lot of people use a lot of concealer, foundation powders, etc., but with my limited amount of time to get ready in the morning for work, I just go with simple things, like a CC cream from Smashbox in the perfect shade. I use a foundation brush to evenly apply the CC cream and it gives a flawless finish! I Then add some glow using a pink blush to the top of my cheeks. I recently bought this Smashbox Contouring kit, and plan to use it to create the perfect face! I haven't had any experience with contouring but I have watched enough Youtube videos to have an idea, and this kit comes with instructions for any face shape! And it comes with a contouring brush! Perfect to add to my collection (and I have to say, I really like the quality of the Smashbox makeup brushes!)

Holiday Makeup Essentials

(2) Eyes: First I use Urban Decay Primer Potion in original to prime my lids. This things works like magic -- I've said this before but my makeup lasts ALL day, even after a 10 hr day and a workout at the gym! And I love my Urban Decay Naked3 Palette, but I have received my Vice3 Palette that I ordered from Sephora and I am already IN LOVE!!! It was on my holiday wish list and I have been talking about it for the last couple of weeks/posting about it, so I finally splurged and got it! I adore all of the creamy shades and the combinations are endless! I have already made 3 unique looks for work that are glamorous and still work appropriate (More on these looks later!). I can't wait to keep exploring. It also has shades that can be subtle for every day and a lot brighter for more dramatic looks at night!

I have recently had my eyes on these Too Faced palettes while shopping on Sephora.com. I eventually went with the Vice3 palette, but I still am saving up some money to buy these!  I love the combinations and colors, particularly the cat eye palette!

Of course an eye look isn't complete without a cat eye - winged liner (my favorite liquid liner is Jesse's Girl Black liquid liner), topped with DiorShow Black Out Mascara!

(3) Lips: Finally, any look isn't complete without some lip color! I have so many different lip glosses and lipsticks, but these are some of my favorites right now! Based on day/night look, you can glam up your make up look by changing lip from light to darker red!

All of these products are versatile enough to be able to create looks for both day and night for the holidays (and every day!)

What are your thoughts? Do you use any other versatile makeup palettes or sets?

Red Hot Holiday Party Dress - eShakti

This past weekend I attended a holiday party I organized for the department, and it was a little stressful! We had to order a lot of beer and food for the grad students, which coordinating was interesting, but ended up being a success! The next night a friend was hosting a cocktail holiday party at her apartment, and I decided to wear this red hot dress I got from eShakti.com! I was amazed at how beautiful it was and how perfectly it fit!

eShakti.com has an amazing selection of dresses, skirts, jackets and tops that are all customizable to your body shape! I fell in love with the beaded detail on the shoulders, and the pleats across the chest - very cute and flattering! The dress fit perfectly at the waist, and the dress had some cute pockets that are handy for storing your phone or a small item like an ID or credit card without being noticeable (or you can just totally ignore the pockets and they aren't that noticeable either! I absolutely love the color and material! (Red dresses are my favorite, aside from little black dresses!) It was also so comfortable for a formal dress! It was very flattering to my body shape but didn't make me feel self conscious like the usual body con style dresses!

On the website, you can select something off their wide selection (I personally loved all of their dresses), and you can customize it to your size. They have different sizes with specific measurements, and then you can select your height - so the dress is made proportionally! and Lastly, you can customize the styling of the dress, as far as the sleeve type, dress length, neckline, and whether you want pockets or not! I went with the options for the dress as they were shown but you can definitely change it up based on what you like! I really like being able to customize the size, especially since I am petite, sometimes clothes are too long, too big, too small, etc.

The dress came very fast and I was impressed. It was folded in a small little box and it wasn't wrinkled at all! I tried on the dress immediately and was so excited with the perfect fit! The website says it will deliver within 14 days of order, and it definitely came faster!

eShakti.com has $30 off your first order, and if you would like, you can use the coupon code 'phdfashionista' at checkout for 10% off your order as many times as you would like until January 13, 2015! You can check them out on FacebookTwitter, and Pinterest!

All in all, the dress was a HIT! and I got so many complements on it and how perfectly it fit me! I am very happy with eShakti and can't wait to get another dress customized! They definitely have other dresses and clothes that I can style to wear to lab!

For the makeup look, I used my Maya Mia Palette by Anastasia Beverly Hills, DipBrow in Medium Brown by Anastasia Beverly Hills (I'm still growing out my brows in hopes of reshaping them!), Smashbox CC Cream, Maybelline Stiletto Liquid Liner, DiorShow BlackOut Mascara, and NYX blush.

Red is perfect for holiday parties! What do you think? What colors are your staples for parties this holiday season?
